General Cigar Co. is honoring five decades of production of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand in Honduras with a new line called Epicure Selección and it is shipping to retailers now.
The Hoyo de Monterrey brand was acquired by General in 1996 during the cigar boom when they purchased Villazon & Co. Inc., which had produced the non-Cuban versions of Hoyo de Monterrey and Punch since the mid-1960s.
The line consists of three sizes: No. 1, measuring 5 3/5 inches by 46 ring gauge ($8.79); No. 2, 4 7/8 by 50 ($8.49); and Toro Especiale, 6 by 50 ($8.99). The Cuban-seed wrapper, binder and filler tobaccos were all grown in Honduras.
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Selección is rolled at Honduras American Tobacco S.A. (HATSA) factory in Danlí, Honduras and comes in 20-count boxes.
