Barrel-Aged Belicoso from Joya de Nicaragua Heading to Asian Markets

oya de Nicaragua will be releasing a unique cigar made just for the Asian market, and it’s rolled with filler tobacco that’s been aged in white oak barrels.

Called Cuatro Cinco-Edición Asia, the new limited-edition, regional smoke measures a stout 4 3/4 inches by 60 ring gauge, a vitola Joya de Nicaragua calls Gran Consul. Joya fans may recognize the fat belicoso from Joya’s resurrected Antaño Gran Reserva line that was released three years ago.

Cuatro Cinco-Edición Asia blend uses the same tobaccos as the Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial, a line that debuted in 2015. All the tobaccos are Nicaraguan, save for the binder, which comes from the Dominican Republic. According to Joya de Nicaragua, the wrapper is Criollo from Nicaragua.

The regional edition Cuatro Cinco comes packed in 10-count boxes that depict two gold pixiu, which is a mythical hybrid creature that resembles a winged lion and is traditional to Chinese lore. The price for the cigar has not yet been set.

Rolled at the Joya de Nicaragua factory, Cuatro Cinco-Edición Asia will hit cigar shops in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Vietnam around May 6. On that day at 9 p.m. EST, Martínez and Eric Piras, founder of Cigraal, Joya de Nicaragua’s exclusive distributor for China, will officially introduce the new cigar via a livestream on Joya de Nicaragua’s Instagram account.
